Mauritius police are ready to charge three men over the murder of the 27-year-old daughter of Tyrone Gaelic football manager Mickey Harte, London's Daily Telegraph reports.

Michaela McAreavey was killed while taking a honeymoon with her husband, a Gaelic football star, in Mauritius. The young woman was found strangled in her bathtub at the Legends Hotel, according to BBC News.

The news came after McAreavey's father spoke publicly about the loss of his daughter.

"This is the worst nightmare that anyone can imagine. If you think things can be bad, then you go beyond that because that is where we are," he said.

The father called the young woman a "gem" and a "wonderful lovely wee girl who grew into a beautiful lady."

McAreavey, an Irish language teacher, married Gaelic football team member John McAreavey on December 30. He is not a suspect in the case.

The young woman returned to her hotel room to collect some biscuits for her tea when she found an intruder there, according to a Mauritius police office. She struggled with the intruder but ultimately was killed, according to results from a post-mortem examination.

The former beauty queen's father is one of the most well-known figures in Irish sports.
