KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- One Afghan child was killed and seven civilians wounded Friday in a suicide bomb attack in the country's southern province of Kandahar, said provincial sources.
"A terrorist blew his explosive-laden jacket up in surrounding areas of Daman district at around midday when a patrol of foreign forces was passing by the area. The explosion killed one child and wounded seven other passers-by," provincial government spokesman Jawid Faisal told Xinhua.
He said no member of the NATO-led ISAF coalition force was hurt in the incident.
The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital.
Kandahar is notorious for growing poppy and is a known Taliban hotbed.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but the Taliban insurgent group was likely behind such attacks.
More than 1,300 civilians were killed and over 2,500 others injured in conflicts and Taliban-led violence in Afghanistan from January to June this year, the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan said recently.
