Regional force to hand over authority to int'l force in CAR
LIBREVILLE, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- The secretary general of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) Ahmad Allam- Mi is expected in the Central African Republic (CAR) before the end of this week.
During the trip, the official will take part in a ceremony to transfer power from the ECCAS regional force (MICOPAX2) to International Support Mission to the CAR (MISCA) which is under the AU command.
A statement released on Wednesday evening from ECCAS secretariat in Libreville, indicated that with commercial flights to Bangui suspended, the ECCAS boss and his entourage will fly to the CAR's capital in a private jet on a date and time that will not be announced due to security reasons.
MISCA will replace MICOPAX 2 soldiers who have been operational in the country for several years. However, the troops from the Central African countries will remain in the country and continue operating under the AU framework.
MISCA soldiers are expected to work in perfect harmony with the 1,600 French soldiers who are already on the ground.
