1st Ld: Group of suicide bombers attack government building in S. Afghanistan, 3 killed
LASHKAR GAH, Afghanistan, June 2 (Xinhua) -- A group of suicide bombers attacked the district headquarters of Gereshk district in the southern Helmand province 555 km south of Kabul on Monday, killing three people while gun battle continues, spokesman for provincial government Omar Zawak said.
"A group of suicide bombers, presumably four persons, targeted the headquarters of Gereshk district at around 11:30 a.m. local time today and so far three persons have been killed; while gun battle goes on," Zawak told Xinhua.
He also said that one suicide bomber blew himself up at the gate of the district headquarters enabling three others to enter.
Police returned fire, triggering gun battle which is continuing, he said, adding so far three persons including a civilian and two police have been killed and three others were injured.
