Kenya's Kiprop wants fast time over shorter 800m race in Paris

NAIROBI, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Omitted from the Commonwealth Games squad, Kenya's Asbel Kiprop will train his eyes on winning the explosive 800m race during Saturday's Paris Diamond League Meeting.

Kiprop, who is the World leader and World champion at 1500, will face a strong squad during the eighth stop of the 14-tier IAAF Diamond League meeting.

Young Kenyan Robert Biwott won the Shanghai leg of Diamond League and should be also observed carefully.

"My target is to test my speed and that is why I have decided to run in this meet. I want to improve my time over the distance and then focus on the world record over the 1,500m distance in Monaco next week," he said.

In the women's 800m, world champion Eunice Sum of Kenya will take on U.S. champion Ajee Wilson as both will have their eye on bettering the current world-leading mark of 1:57.74, while Kiprop will return to the principality in his specialist event, the 1500m.

For the first time ever, the Monaco meeting will stage a women' s 5000m. World indoor champion Genzebe Dibaba will take on world silver medallist Mercy Cherono, who finished a few seconds ahead of Dibaba over 3000m in Doha earlier this year.

In the men's 3000m steeplechase, world and Olympic champion Ezekiel Kemboi will face a tough opponent in the form of rising star Jairus Birech, the world leader and winner of the IAAF Diamond League meetings in Rome and Oslo.
