Hamas admits drones missions for first time

GAZA, July 14 (Xinhua) -- For the first time ever, the armed wing of Hamas, al-Qassam Brigades said in a leaflet on Monday that it manufactured dozens of reconnaissance drones called "Ababil" that are able to attack Israel.

The group claimed responsibility on Monday for flying one of these drones over Israel. However, Israel Radio said that the Israeli army had taken down the drone while it was flying over the coastal Israeli city of Ashdod early on Monday.

Also according to the militant group, it manufactures three kinds of Ababil drones that can fulfill reconnaissance and attack missions, while one sort of the unmanned aircraft can also kill itself after finishing assault task.

Earlier this month, Israel launched a large-scale offensive on the Gaza Strip called Operation Protective Edge, where its war jets and drones carried out hundreds of airstrikes on various banks targets belong to Hamas.

Medics said 174 Palestinians were killed and more than 1,200 injured since the Israeli offensive started, most of whom were civilians.
