Tunisia: National mourning for soldiers killed in "terrorist" attack
TUNIS, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki announced national mourning for three days starting Thursday, following the death of 14 soldiers in a "terrorist" attack on Mountain Chaambi in Kasserine, near the Tunisian-Algerian borders.
Tunisian flags on top of public buildings and institutions will be half-mast for the three days, according to the official communique issued by the presidency on Thursday.
As a reaction to the incident, several political parties, including Ennahdha and civil society representatives, called for anti-terrorism protests in order to condemn the killing of Tunisian soldiers.
The attack was not the first one against troops of Tunisian army. Four Tunisian soldiers were killed in a landmine explosion on a mountain in Kef, northwest of the country, in early July.
