Explosion kills 1 PKK member in Turkey
ANKARA, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- One member of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) was killed and three other members wounded in an explosion in eastern Turkey on Saturday, an official statement said.
The explosion occurred near Alaca village in Tunceli province, leaving one PKK militant dead and three others injured, including one in serious condition, the statement issued by Tunceli Governor 's Office said.
The statement said two ambulances were sent to the scene in the region, adding that an investigation into the incident was underway.
The PKK, listed as a terrorist group by Turkey and some other countries, took up arms in 1984 to create an ethnic homeland for the Kurds in southeastern Turkey. So far, more than 40,000 were killed in conflicts involving the PKK.
