Jan Cienski is a former GlobalPost correspondent from Warsaw, Poland. He is the Warsaw bureau chief of the Financial Times, and also covers the Czech Republic and Slovakia. He has been in Warsaw since 2003. Prior to that he spent five years as the Washington correspondent for the National Post, a Canadian newspaper. He also spent several years in the United States working for the Associated Press. From 1992 to 1995 he worked in Moscow for the German News Agency DPA, and was also a freelancer in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. He got his start as a reporter working in Warsaw for United Press International in 1989 and 1990. Jan was born in South Africa in 1965 and later lived in Canada, where he received a degree in international relations from the University of Toronto.
