Snow and ice cover Britain in this image from NASA's multi-national Terra satellite, orbiting more than 400 miles above the earth, Jan. 7, 2010. Widespread ice and sub-zero temperatures continued to cause disruption across Britain. In western Ireland, lakes froze for the first time in living memory and teenagers were driving all-terrain vehicles on the ice. In three weeks, the nation used up a year’s supply of road salt.
