Lincoln Center has postponed Monday's New York screening of "Jack Reacher" with Tom Cruise, just the latest cancelation around the film following the Newtown, Conn. shootings. 20 children and six adults were killed on Friday's mass shooting at an elementary school.

USA TODAY reported the benefit was for The Film Society of Lincoln Center's 50th anniversary fund.

"[The cancelation is] out of respect for the families who lost loved ones in Newtown, Connecticut," explained a statement from the film society, according to USA TODAY. "We extend our love and condolences to you. Our community grieves with yours."

The Los Angeles Times noted parts of the movie are "eerily close to reality, as the film deals with a sniper killing people in a public place."

The violent action film is still on track to be released on December 21.

On Wednesday, Cruise will travel to Pittsburgh to screen the film but there will be no red carpet, USA TODAY said.

Tom Cruise publicly appeared for the first time since his divorce from Katie Holmes at the world premiere of "Jack Reacher" in London, GlobalPost reported.
