Romanians in the village of Clinceni, southeast of Bucharest, have unfurled the largest flag in the world.

The flag weighs five tons and measures 1,145 feet by 744 feet – about the size of three football fields, according to the Associated Press.

The factory that made the flag used 44 miles of thread to stitch it together.

It took 200 people several hours to unroll it over seven acres on an airfield on Monday, BBC News reported.

"It gives me great pleasure to recognize a new Guinness World Record title," Jack Brockbank, an adjudicator for Guinness World Records, said after he measured the flag, according to the AP. "Congratulations Romania!"

Previously, Lebanon held the record for the world’s largest flag.
