URGENT ¥¥¥ Vietnam jails 22 activists: lawyer

Vietnam on Monday handed long jail terms ranging from 10 years to life imprisonment to 22 activists, a defence lawyer said, in one of the country's largest subversion trials for years.

The defendants were convicted of trying to overthrow the communist government, lawyer Nguyen Huong Que said -- a charge which rights groups say is routinely laid against peaceful dissidents in the communist nation.
