Sheffield Wednesday manager Dave Jones and Brighton first-team coach Charlie Oatway were both charged by the Football Association (FA) on Tuesday following a touchline row during the match between the two Championship clubs on Saturday.

The FA, in a statement, said the charges, "both for alleged improper conduct, are in relation to an incident which occurred during the game".

Tempers flared after Wednesday midfielder Danny Pugh's forceful challenge on Brighton's Inigo Calderon in the second half at Hillsborough.

Pugh's ensuing booking sparked an angry reaction from the Brighton bench and the subsequent confrontation, which involved coaching staff and players from both sides, saw Jones and Oatway sent to the stands by the referee as stewards and police tried to restore order.

Wednesday won the match 3-1, a victory that inched them away from the second-tier relegation zone.

Jones and Oatway each have until 1600GMT on Friday to respond to the charges against them.
