A senior US Treasury official will lead the US team to the G20 talks in Moscow this week, the Treasury said Monday, as Treasury secretary-nominee Jacob Lew's Senate confirmation is pending.
The Treasury's under secretary for international affairs, Lael Brainard, will lead the US team to the talks Friday and Saturday in Moscow, where global financial regulation and the fear of "currency wars" -- competitive devaluations -- will lead the agenda.
The Treasury would not say whether Lew, whose confirmation hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, will travel to the talks or not.
Lew, previously White House chief of staff, was nominated by President Barack Obama last month to replace Treasury chief Timothy Geithner, who stepped down on January 25.
