Football: South Africa coach Igesund has appendix removed

South Africa football coach Gordon Igesund was recovering in hospital Thursday after a successful operation to remove his appendix.

"The operation was successful, Gordon is feeling well and in good spirits and he should be released by the weekend," a South African Football Association statement said.

Igesund, 56, winner of the South African Premiership with a record four clubs, was appointed national coach six months ago and guided the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations hosts to the quarter-finals.
