Colombian international James Rodriguez was only named amongst the Porto substitutes for the visit of Malaga in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash.
Ghanaian Cristian Atsu was also only named on the bench despite scoring his first goal for the club in their 2-0 win over Beira Mar on Friday night, with Marat Izmailov and Silvestre Valera supporting Jackson Martinez in attack.
For Malaga there was a first European start of the season for Julio Baptista, the Brazilian who missed the group stages due to the foot injury that had kept him out for over a year.
Martin Demichelis, Jeremy Toulalan, Joaquin and Roque Santa Cruz also returned to the starting line-up after being rested at the weekend.
