Australian police said Wednesday they had made their largest ever seizure of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of around Aus$438 million (US$446 million).
The operation involving federal and New South Wales state police confiscated 585 kilograms (1,287 pounds) of the drug known as "ice", the Australian Associated Press reported.
It said law enforcers were releasing few details of the operation, but had confirmed the estimated value of the seizure. Senior police and customs officials were to display the haul to the media Thursday.
In other recent major drug busts in the country, police last December said they had seized cocaine shipped from Chile worth up to Aus$77 million.
The month before, they confiscated cocaine and methamphetamine worth Aus$237 million shipped from China in a consignment of heavy machinery.
