Bastia's 1-0 win over bitter Corsican rivals Ajaccio was overshadowed by an injury-time skirmish that prompted the referee, who had already sent-off one player, to issue four more red cards, two to each side.
Veteran striker Toifilou Maoulida netted the Ligue 1 game's only goal two minutes after half-time to halt Bastia's run of six matches without victory but tempers flared at Stade Armand Cesari after home goalkeeper Mickael Landreau was caught by the boot of Kenyan forward Dennis Oliech in the closing stages.
Oliech received his marching orders for the dangerous challenge before an off-the-ball incident involving Ajaccio's Benjamin Andre and Bastia pair Jerome Rothen and Florian Thauvin led to their respective dismissals.
Bastia finished the game with nine players, while Ajaccio ended with just eight having also lost Matthieu Chalme for a second bookable offence 10 minutes from the end.
Saturday's incident compounded an ugly weekend for Corsican football with GFC Ajaccio's Ligue 2 clash with Monaco on Friday marred by reports of home fans attacking the officials, who also complained of being verbally assaulted by members of the island club.
