Montpellier coach Rene Girard will leave the club at the end of the season, club president Louis Nicollin has said.
Girard took the Mediterranean side to their first French league title last year, but results have been poor this year both on the domestic front and in Europe where Montpellier failed to reach the last 16.
On top of that, relations between Girard and the outspoken Nicollin, who has been the strongman and main share-holder at the club since 1974, have deteriorated over the last few months.
"Overall I am happy with the work he has done and I thought at one point that we would give him a one year contract extension," Nicollin told L'Equipe.
"But no-one tells me what to do. It's me that pays the money and it's me that decides. So we will end it there."
Nicollin said that for the moment had did not know who would replace Girard.
