Tokyo stocks up 0.84% by break


Tokyo stocks were 0.84 percent higher Friday morning, tracking gains on Wall Street and after Japan gave the nod to a new central bank governor expected to take aggressive action to fix the economy.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index added 103.44 points to 12,484.63, while the broader the Topix index of all first-section shares was up 0.78 percent, or 8.12 points, at 1,046.29.
