Central African rebels advancing on the country's capital claimed Friday they were "at the gates of Bangui", faced only with the "barrier" of South African soldiers, a rebel chief, colonel Djouma Narkoyo, told AFP.
"We are at the gates of Bangui. I cannot tell you where, it is a military secret... The last barrier is the South Africans," said Narkoyo, contacted by phone from Libreville. He was referring to a South African stabilisation force in the country.
