Cars, gas drive Canada inflation to 1.2%

Canadian consumer prices rose 1.2 percent in the 12 months to February, amid higher prices for gasoline and passenger vehicles, the government statistics agency said Wednesday.

Gasoline prices advanced 3.9 percent year over year in February, while passenger vehicle prices rose 2.5 percent.

Canadians also paid more for meat and fresh fruit, restaurant meals, rent, home purchases, fuel oil and natural gas, while prices of non-alcoholic beverages and mortgage interest costs went down.
