Cycling: Belgian star Boonen crashes out again

Tom Boonen's bid to defend his Tour of Flanders title came to a premature end when the Belgian star crashed out after just 19 kilometres into the 256km one day classic on Sunday.

The Omega Pharma rider, who has a record-equalling three Flanders titles to his name, reportedly injured his shoulder and thigh and was taken to hospital for treatment.

This was the second time in a week that Boonen has failed to finish a race, his Flanders fall coming on the back of the knee injury he suffered when taking a tumble around 65km from the finish of last Sunday's Ghent-Wevelgem.
