Trial of Russia opposition leader Navalny to begin April 17

Initial hearings in the trial of Alexei Navalny, a top critic of President Vladimir Putin charged last year in an embezzlement case, will begin in mid-April, a Russian court said on Wednesday.

"The trial will begin on April 17," Sergei Blinov, a judge with the Leninsky district court in the provincial city of Kirov who will preside over the case, told AFP. If found guilty, Navalny faces up to 10 years in jail.
