Earthquake rattles Acapulco, Mexico City

An earthquake rattled the Pacific resort of Acapulco late Thursday and was felt as far north as Mexico City, causing buildings to sway, but there were no immediate reports of damage.

The US Geological Survey reported a 5.4-magnitude earthquake that struck 81 kilometers (50 miles) west of Acapulco while Mexico's seismology center measured it at 5.3.

The temblor, which had a depth of 24.4 kilometers (15.1 miles), was 285 kilometers (177 miles) southwest of Mexico City, the USGS said.
