Wits University stretched an unbeaten South African Premiership run to six matches Friday by fighting back and forcing a 1-1 draw at Moroka Swallows.
But the 'Clever Boys' rode their luck as Swallows squandered several chances either side of the lead Bennett Chenene gave them midway thorugh the second half before Sibusiso Vilakazi levelled.
Chenene struck on 64 minutes with a low, close-range shot after a Katlego Mashego cut-back and a defence-splitting Calvin Kadi pass set up Vilakazi to beat Nigerian goalkeeper Greg Etafia at his near post nine minutes from time.
Ambitious Johannesburg-based Wits fired Spaniard Antonio Lopez in mid-season as they struggled in the bottom half of the 16-club table and drafted in South Africa 1996 Cup of Nations-winning coach Clive Barker.
Unfashionable Wits have not lost under inspirational Barker since a 3-0 drubbing at Bloemfontein Celtic in mid-February and lie fourth with 34 points from 24 matches.
Swallows are four places further down the table with coach Zeca Marques targeting a top-four finish for the Soweto club who finished runners-up behind Orlando Pirates last season.
