Wounded man shot dead in Libya intensive care unit

Armed men broke in to the intensive care unit of a Tripoli hospital on Friday and shot dead a man being treated there in an apparent revenge attack, the hospital's director said.

"Armed individuals burst in to the intensive care unit where two wounded men had been admitted and killed one of them, while the other one has disappeared," Abu Slim hospital's Dr Sami Hanesh said.

He said "the assailants were motivated by vengeance because the two wounded individuals had killed a member of their family."

Hanesh added that it was unclear whether the second man had been taken by the assailants or by security forces who had arrived to secure the hospital.

Since longtime dictator Moamer Kadhafi was overthrown and killed in a popular uprising in 2011, Libya has been awash with firearms and has suffered from widespread insecurity.
