The National Hockey League's annual outdoor game in 2014 will take place on New Year's Day in Michigan Stadium, the league announced on Sunday.
The Winter Classic game will feature the Detroit Red Wings hosting the Toronto Maple Leafs at the home of the Michigan Wolverines' American gridiron team.
The game was supposed to take place during the current NHL regular season, but a labour dispute and lockout of the players forced a cancellation of the NHL's outdoor game back in November.
Detroit and Toronto will be division opponents next season thanks to the NHL's new realignment plan that will begin at the start of the 2013-14 season.
