China, US pledge joint efforts on Korea crisis

The top diplomats of both China and the US pledged Saturday to work together to resolve the nuclear crisis on the Korean peninsula, where tensions are at fever pitch and Pyongyang has threatened war.

"To properly address the Korean nuclear issue serves the common interests of all parties," said China's State Councillor Yang Jiechi, saying Beijing would work with other parties including the US.

Visiting Secretary of State John Kerry said China and the US "must together take steps in order to achieve the goal of a denuclearised Korean peninsula".
