Trial begins of Russian opposition leader Navalny

A Russian court on Wednesday opened the embezzlement trial of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny which could see the leading critic of President Vladimir Putin jailed for up to 10 years.

Navalny, dressed in a tie-less white shirt and looking relaxed, sat with his lawyers while supporters and media thronged the courthouse in the provincial northern city of Kirov, an AFP correspondent reported.
