Vote recount impossible in Venezuela

A manual recount as sought by the opposition in Venezuela's disputed election to succeed Hugo Chavez is impossible because the electoral system is computerized, the Supreme Court said Wednesday.

The statement by Chief Justice Luisa Estela Morales seemed to slam the door further on opposition leader Henrique Capriles, who was narrowly defeated by pro-Chavez ruling party candidate Nicolas Maduro in Sunday's election.

The national election board had already said there would be no recount.
