Hull's bid to win automatic promotion to the Premier League suffered a setback on Friday as the Tigers were held to 0-0 draw by already relegated Bristol City at the KC Stadium.
With leaders Cardiff sealing their promotion from the Championship on Tuesday, it is down to second placed Hull and third placed Watford to fight it out for the final guaranteed spot among the elite.
A win for Hull would have moved the hosts nine points clear of Watford and left them within touching distance of a return to the Premier League after a three-year absence.
Instead, Steve Bruce's team gave a nervous display and had to settle for a point.
Even so, Hull's advantage over Watford has stretched to seven points and a win for Blackburn at Vicarage Road, combined with Crystal Palace failing to beat Leicester, would see the Tigers promoted on Saturday.
If those matches go against Hull, they will need a positive result at Barnsley or against Cardiff on the final day of the season to secure a top-two place.
