France's Hollande sinks to new popularity low

French President Francois Hollande's popularity rating slumped six points in a month to hit 25 percent, worse than his predecessor Nicolas Sarkozy's lowest ever score, a survey said.

According to a poll by the Ifop institute to be published in the Sunday newspaper Le Journal Du Dimanche, Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault also lost six points to sink to a 30 percent approval rating.

The survey, carried out on a sample of 1,875 people and with a 2.2 percent margin of error, showed that discontent was growing within Hollande's own power base, with only 64 percent of Socialist Party supporters backing him, down from 77 percent in March.
