Winger Joe Tomane has been ruled out of the Wallabies squad for the opening Test against the British and Irish Lions, the Australian Rugby Union said on Tuesday.

Tomane withdrew with a toe injury suffered in training and has been replaced by Australian Sevens winger Luke Morahan.

A scan revealed a small toe fracture in Tomane's left foot.

Morahan, who scored an impressive kick and chase try for the Queensland Reds against the tourists last Saturday, made his Test debut last year against Scotland at Newcastle.

The ARU said Tomane, who will remain part of the Wallaby squad, is expected to recover in time to play some part in the rest of the three-Test series, which opens in Brisbane on June 22, moves to Melbourne on June 29 and wraps up in Sydney on July 6.
