Brazil leader cancels Japan trip amid protests

Brazil's President Dilma Rousseff on Thursday canceled a trip to Japan planned for later this month, her office said, as her government grapples with mass protests.

"She has ultimately decided to postpone this trip, which would have involved several days of travel. She has decided to stay in Brazil due to current events," a source in her office told AFP.

Rousseff had been scheduled to visit Japan June 26-28 for talks with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and an audience with Emperor Akihito.
