A Ukrainian biathlete who represented her country in European championships, Olena Demydenko, has been found stabbed to death, police said Friday.
Demydenko, 28, was found dead in the early morning of June 18 on the doorstep of her home in the Sumy region, some 300 kilometres (185 miles) northeast of Kiev.
Police said that Demydenko had been cohabiting with a man who is a convicted murderer and they are now trying to find him. He appeared to have crossed a nearby border into Russia, police said.
Demydenko competed in two European championships as well as four junior world championships as a member of the Ukraine national team. She had since retired and moved into coaching.
