Tokyo stocks close down 1.40%

Tokyo stocks closed 1.40 percent lower on Monday, giving up earlier gains as Asian shares fell after strong US employment data nourished fears the Federal Reserve will roll back its stimulus programme.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index lost 200.63 points to 14,109.34, while the Topix index of all first-section shares lost 1.35 percent, or 16.00 points, to 1,172.58.
