Syria offers rewards for captured foreign fighters

Syrian authorities are offering rewards of 500,000 Syrian pounds (around $2,500/1,900 euros), to anyone who hands over captured foreign "terrorists," Syrian state television said on Friday.

A reward of 200,000 pounds will be offered to those providing information on the presence of foreign fighters or helping in their capture.

Those handing in foreign fighters will be offered protection and their identities protected, the message added, saying even fugitives who turned in foreign fighters could receive pardons.

Syria's government deems as "terrorists" all those seeking the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad.

The armed opposition includes foreign fighters, some of whom belong to the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Al-Nusra Front and Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.
