Football: Bulgaria player handed provisional drugs ban

An unnamed Bulgarian international has been provisionally suspended after failing a drugs test following his country's 2014 World Cup qualifier in Malta this month, FIFA announced Thursday.

FIFA added they had opened a disciplinary procedure against the player, who returned the positive test following Bulgaria's 2-1 win in Ta'Qali on September 10.

Under FIFA's doping regulations the player's identity and the substance he has tested positive for can only be revealed once a disciplinary hearing has determined a doping violation has occurred.

The player has been handed an initial 30-day suspension pending further proceedings.
