Golf: Mickelson, Stenson, Fowler share lead at PGA

Phil Mickelson birdied the ninth hole to grab a share of the lead with Sweden's Henrik Stenson and American Rickie Fowler in Sunday's final round of the PGA Championship.

Leaders began the back nine at rain-softened Valhalla having made the most of receptive greens, but early finishers were unable to match their birdie binges over the final stretch.

Mickelson sank a 10-foot birdie putt at the ninth to match playing partner Fowler and fourth-ranked Stenson atop the leaderboard at 14-under par.

The trio stretched a two-shot gap on 54-hole leader Rory McIlroy and Finland's Mikko Ilonen, who shared fourth on 12-under.

Four-time major winner Ernie Els and American Jimmy Walker shared the clubhouse lead on 11-under.

McIlroy and last-pair playing partner Bernd Wiesberger of Austria were the only players over par for the round among the top 25 on the leaderboard as they reached the ninth hole, both one-over on the day through nine holes.
