Authorities in Mexico have arrested seven police officers suspected of playing a role in the disappearance and murder of a television reality show contestant, officials said on Tuesday.
Gibran David Martiz Diaz, 22, a contestant on the popular game show "La Voz Mexico," which seeks to find the country's next singing star, was found fatally shot on Saturday.
His body was found along with that of another youth who had been abducted with him in the Gulf Coast state of Veracruz, officials said.
Authorities said the two young kidnap victims, who went missing on January 7, were fatally shot by their abductors moments before security forces arrived to free them.
Two kidnapping suspects were killed in a shootout with police during the botched rescue attempt, officials said.
Recent statistics show that kidnapping is on the rise in Mexico.
In 2012, there were some 105,000 abductions in this nation of 118 million people.
