A building collapse during a botched demolition in Argentina has killed a worker and injured four others, officials said Tuesday, as rescue crews searched for survivors.
The incident happened in the capital Buenos Aires. Of those wounded, one has been hospitalized, according to first responders. The deceased was 46 years old.
In their search for possibly more victims, rescuers were removing rubble from the site, located in the commercial and residential neighborhood of Once.
"We had reported that this structure could fall. There was a lack of accountability," Ruben Pronotti, spokesman for the construction workers' union, told TN television.
Crumbling buildings, as well as those under construction or demolition, have caused 23 deaths and injured more than 100 people in Buenos Aires over the past four years, according to the auditor general and others.
