European stocks rise at open

Europe's main stock markets rose at the open on Thursday, with London's benchmark FTSE 100 index of top companies up 0.18 percent to 6,808.98 points.

Frankfurt's DAX 30 grew 0.27 percent to 9,547.27 points and in Paris the CAC 40 gained 0.24 percent to 4,457.02.

Barclays' shares jumped more than 3.0 percent in London after the embattled British bank announced plans to shrink its investment banking unit by cutting thousands of jobs and offloading assets costing billions of pounds.
