UN envoy denies Russia shot down Ukraine warplane

Russia's UN envoy on Thursday flat-out rejected a claim by Kiev that a Russian jet had shot down a Ukrainian warplane over its territory this week.

"We didn't do it," Russian Ambassador Vitaly Churkin told reporters at UN headquarters in New York.

Ukraine's national security and defense council said a Russian military jet hit the Ukrainian Su-25 jet with a rocket and that the pilot managed to eject.

It said the shoot down occurred over Ukrainian territory.
