Missouri governor ramps up National Guard in Ferguson

The governor of the US state of Missouri on Tuesday ordered more National Guard troops into the riot-hit town of Ferguson and said their role would be expanded in a bid to quell violence.

"Altogether, there will be more than 2,200 National Guardsmen in the region. Lives and property must be protected. This community deserves to have peace," Governor Jay Nixon told reporters.
