Thunder poised to take top seed in West after beating Spurs

U.S. Sports Desk, Apr 5 (EFE).- The Oklahoma City Thunder beat the San Antonio Spurs 100-88 to move within a half-game of the Texas club in the battle for top seed in the NBA Western Conference.

Russell Westbrook scored 27 points and Kevin Durant contributed another 25 in what turned out to be a fairly easy home win over the Spurs.

Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard each put up 24 points for San Antonio.

The outcome leaves the Thunder with a record of 55-20, while San Antonio stands at 56-20. If the teams ended the regular season tied, Oklahoma City would claim the No. 1 seed by virtue of having beaten the Spurs three out of four times head-to-head.

Denver held on to third place in the West with a 95-94 victory over the Dallas Mavericks, but the triumph was bittersweet for the Nuggets as they lost Danilo Gallinari to injury.

Backup guard Corey Brewer led the Nuggets with 23 points, while Brendan Wright was the Mavericks' top scorer with 16.

In other action, Carlos Boozer logged 29 points and 18 rebounds in Chicago's 92-90 road victory over the Brooklyn Nets, edging the Bulls up to fifth place in the Eastern Conference.
