Sao Paulo, Apr 7 (EFE).- A policeman was shot to death on the weekend in an attack by two men riding a motorcycle in eastern Sao Paulo, bringing the number of Military Police officers killed in Brazil so far this year to 26, authorities said.
The officer, who was off duty and not wearing his uniform, was at the door of his home when he was surprised by the attackers, a source with the Military Police told Efe.
The victim drew his pistol and the attackers opened fire, wounding him severely. Moments later, they stole his pistol and fled on their motorcycle, which did not have a license plate on it.
The wounded police officer was transported to a hospital, where emergency surgery was performed but he could not be saved and died early Sunday morning.
