International Sports Desk, Apr 30 (EFE).- Spain's Rafael Nadal will play in the event in Basel, the hometown of Swiss tennis great Roger Federer, this year, tournament organizers said.
The 26-year-old Nadal, an 11-time Grand Slam champion, has not played in the Swiss Indoors in nine years.
The hardcourt tournament, which will take place Oct. 19-27, will feature Federer, Nadal and defending champion Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina.
Nadal lost in the first round both times that he played the event in Basel.
He was beaten in 2003 by countryman Feliciano Lopez and lost the following year to Germany's Rainer Schuettler.
Nadal defeated countryman Nicolas Almagro 6-4, 6-3 Sunday in the final of the Barcelona Open, taking his eighth title at the clay-court event.
The Spanish star has won 54 career titles and four this season.
Nadal has taken the titles this year in Sao Paulo, Acapulco and Indian Wells, and he made the finals in Viña del Mar and Monte Carlo in his first five tournaments since returning to action.
Nadal suffered a knee injury last year that sidelined him for seven months.
