Mexico City, May 19 (EFE).- America beat Monterrey 2-1 after tying them 2-2 in the first match of a two-game series, thus qualifying for the final in the Mexican Clausura soccer tournament.
America will next go up later this week against the winner of the Cruz Azul-Santos two-game semifinals match-up, the second contest of which is to be played on Sunday.
In the first game, Cruz Azul smashed Santos 3-0 in an away match in the Torreon stadium and thus has the wind at their backs for the second confrontation.
In other Mexican soccer news, La Piedad won a penalty shootout 5-3 on Saturday against Neza, after their final series became tied with the former's 1-0 win in regulation time, thus ensuring its ascension into Mexican soccer's First Division, while Queretaro dropped into the Second Division.
La Piedad will compete in the First Division during the Apertura 2013 tourney, beginning in August.
